As Similar As A Simile

  • Poetry Pot
  • Write Your Darndest

I am as explosive as a firecracker

For I am as excited as a panting puppy

That makes me as bouncy as a kangaroo

And as silly as a goose.

For my teacher, who is as wise as an owl,

Gave a lesson as interesting as an insect-eating dinosaur

With her voice as smooth as silk

And her chalk as squeaky as a rusty wheel

About a poem as pretty as a princess

Yet as brilliant as the sun

Filled with similes as similar as a…

SIMILE!

Do you notice anything similar about the coloured words?

Yes, they all have the word as.

That is because this poem – if you haven’t noticed yet – is a poem of similes.

simile

You can make a poem filled with similes, too.

Write Your Darndest!

To make it easier for you, write about yourself:

I am as loud as a _________________.

I am as quiet as a __________________.

I am as brave as a ___________________.

I am as shy as a _____________________.

I am as strong as a ______________________.

I am as weak as a ______________________.

I am as pretty/handsome as a ___________________.

I am as ugly as a _______________________.

I am as neat as a ________________________.

I am as messy as a ________________________.

That makes me as silly as me, (your name)_______________.
